The Seahorse certificate is the official accompanying certificate for the Seahorse badge according to the German Examination Regulations (DPO) in the current version from January 1, 2020. This beginner's certificate documents the successful completion of the Seahorse examination and is ideal for presenting to children after they have passed their swimming test.
The front contains the requirements for the Seahorse badge as well as blank fields for name, place, date, examiner's signature, and the stamp of the issuing institution. The back lists the current swimming rules in the 2024 version from the Federal Office for Swimming (BFS).
The certificate is suitable for use in swimming schools, clubs, and educational institutions and is a high-quality addition to the official Seahorse badge.

Seahorse Badge & Certificate – Learning to Swim Made Easy
The Seahorse Badge is the most well-known swimming badge for children in Germany and marks an important milestone in learning to swim. It confirms that a child can move safely over a short distance in the water, jump from the edge of the pool, and understand basic swimming rules.
The Seahorse test is often part of swimming courses in schools, clubs, or swimming schools and forms the basis for more advanced swimming badges such as Bronze, Silver, or Gold. As a visible award, children receive the Seahorse badge for ironing or sewing on after passing the test.
The badge is complemented by a corresponding certificate – the so-called beginner’s certificate – on which, in addition to the child's name, the location, date, examiner, and stamp are entered. The current edition of the certificate (Edition 2024) complies with the applicable German Examination Regulations and contains the official swimming rules of the Federal Office for Swimming on the back.
